Riverina Murray Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre.

Are you a resident of the Riverina Murray region and looking for information about community aged care, disability and other support services?

Then the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre is the place to call.

What is the information support service?

There are a wide range of services to support independent living in the community, but finding out about them or accessing them can be time consuming, difficult and confusing. Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres provide a single point of contact for the general public, service providers, general practitioners and other health professionals for information on community, aged and disability services and carer support. The Centres can also assist with information about costs for services, assessment processes and eligibility criteria. The staff can also transfer you to other Centres throughout Australia if you require information about another area.

What is carer respite and support?

Respite is a way of relieving the stress of being a carer. It is important for carers to make time for themselves, for their own health and wellbeing.  Finding respite that suits the carer and the person being cared for is also important.

Centres can coordinate access to respite services in your local area, and work with you to plan approaches to respite and other support needs. Carers can gain access to short-term and emergency respite through contacting the Centre on 1800 052 222 (24 hours a day).

Who is a carer?

Carers are usually family members who provide support to children or adults who have a disability, a mental health issue, a chronic condition or who are frail aged. Carers can be parents, partners, brothers, sisters, friends or children of any age. Carers may care for a few hours a week or all day, every day.

What is respite?

Respite is a break from the responsibility of looking after someone. It may be for a few hours a day, a night or longer and can be in the carer's home or at a day centre. Respite is a way to reduce some of the stresses that come from being a carer.
