Community Development

Community DevelopmentIntereach is actively contributing to the strengthening and development of communities through its community development. We provide support through grants for community groups who need help both financially and with management. We work with businesses and cultural, social and community groups to help them develop programs and activities that meet local needs.

What is Community Development?

Community Development is focused on projects and activities that lessen social and economic disadvantage. This involves identifying need and developing projects that have a real impact. An important role in community development is to provide facilities for individuals and groups to come together.

What Community Development does Intereach do?

Intereach's Community Development Officer meets with community members and groups to develop programs and activities to meet local needs, conduct research, provide information, resources and support and help with grant applications. We also provide community information and education to raise awareness of issues, services and activities.

An aim of our community development is to improve access to services for marginalised community members, such as Aboriginal or culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people and disadvantaged groups.

Intereach provides a Computer Link Station, Broadband for Seniors kiosk and also meeting rooms for community use in Deniliquin and assists in the planning of community events such as The White Ribbon Breakfast, International Women's Day, Seniors Week and Harmony Day.

The Neighbourhood Centre also provides sponsorship for support groups like the Low Vision Group, provides an outlet and support for the free Community Legal Service, Tax Help, No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS), volunteers, the Aboriginal Working Party - Werkitya Kalpal, the Deniliquin Domestic Violence Liaison Committee and The Country Store.
