The No Interest Loan Scheme provides interest free loans for individuals or families on low incomes. It provides access to fair, safe and affordable credit for the purchase of household goods and services. Items that can be purchased are household items such as a fridge, freezer, washing machine, bed or a clothes dryer. Loans may also be provided to help meet other needs such as education or health.

The loan cannot be used for emergency relief, bond or rent money, living expenses, debt repayment or vehicle insurance or registration.

Who is eligible for the No Interest Loan Scheme?

Low income earners (families or individuals), people receiving a government pension or payment, people who have lived at the same address for at least six months.

How much can I borrow and what are the repayments?

The maximum amount for a loan is $1000 and it is to be used on one item only. The repayments are deducted from your Centrelink benefit through the Centrepay system over a period of 6-18 months.

How much will it cost?

Loans are interest free with repayment plans to suit the individuals financial circumstances. There are no application fees or interest charges on these loans.

Where is the No Interest Loan Scheme available?

The loans are available to people living in the 2710 postcode area.

How do I apply?

Drop into the Children and Family Services Centre or the Neighbourhood Centre in Deniliquin. Your details will be taken and an application package will be sent to you. A Family Worker will then contact you to ensure you have received the package and make an appointment time to go through the application with you. The Family Worker will then present your application to the NILS Assessment Committee. You be advised within two weeks if your application is successful.
