Home Maintenance and Modifications
Access - Safety - Independence
Are you older, living with a disability or caring for someone that is? Are you having difficulty maintaining your home and garden, or need some repairs or modifications around the home to ensure that you can continue to live at home? Then you may be eligible for assistance from the Home Maintenance and Modifications program.
Home modifications are the changes that can be made to your home so that you can continue to live and move safely in the house. This often includes lever taps, widening of doorways, the fitting of rails, ramps, alarms or other safety and mobility items.
Home maintenance is a service available to assist with maintaining and repairing your home, garden or yard to keep it safe. Home maintenance includes both minor and major repairs, from changing a light bulb or tap washer to replacing guttering or roof repairs. It also includes one-off garden maintenance, such as lawn mowing and the removal of rubbish.
Who can get assistance?
Assistance is available to the elderly, people living with a disability and their carers, who may not be able to stay in their own homes without basic maintenance services.
Modifications must be referred by an Occupational Therapist before they can proceed.
Where is the Home Maintenance and Modification service available?
This service is available in Deniliquin, Conargo and lower Murray shires and the rural regional area in between.
What does it cost?
Clients are asked to pay for the cost of the materials and also one-third of the labour costs, which will be provided at a subsidised hourly rate. Materials are provided at a discounted cost wherever possible, however if you have difficulty paying for maintenance or modifications, assistance is available and can be negotiated.
