Why join our Board?
If you would like to make a difference to your community, contribute and gain some skills and meet new people, then consider nominating for the Intereach Board.
The Intereach Board is a dynamic and professional group of people who are committed to strengthening our communities and ensuring services are provided in a professional and sustainable manner. Who is eligible to join?
Current and financial members of Intereach are eligible for nomination for a position on the Board. These skills will include experience in more than one of the following areas: finance, governance, strategic planning, philanthropy, monitoring, evaluation, risk management, marketing, public relations, networking, quality assurance, employment law and/or conflict resolution.
What will my responsibilities be?
The role of the Board is to ensure Intereach:
- achieves its mission, strategic goals and objectives
- has continued effective and diligent monitoring of management to facilitate accountability to the organisation and its members and stakeholders
- meets all the legal and moral responsibilities and requirements accompanying “best practice” corporate governance
As a Board member, you will be required to:
- Discharge your duties in good faith and honesty in the best interests of the organisation with a level of skill and care expected.
- Use the powers of office for proper purposes, in the best interests of the organisation as a whole.
- Act with required care and diligence, demonstrating commercial reasonableness in your decisions.
- Avoid conflict of interest.
- Not make improper use of information gained through your position on the board.
- Not allow personal interests, or the interest of any associated person, to conflict with the interests of the organisation.
- Make reasonable inquiries to ensure that the organisation is operating efficiently, effectively and legally towards achieving its goals.
- Undertake diligent analysis of all proposals placed before the board, including reading and understanding board papers.
- Serve on Board sub committees as required.
- Attend all meetings of the Board.
How often does the Board meet?
The Board meets on a monthly basis, currently on the fourth Thursday of the month in the afternoon. On any given month, there may also be extra Board meetings, working group meetings or special events that may require the attendance of one or more Board members. Board meetings generally are held in Deniliquin and members are able to participate in meetings by teleconference, if required.
How do I apply?
If you are a current financial member of Intereach, you can download and complete a Board Nomination form. Your nomination form must be signed by two currently financial members of Intereach who are known to you.
You can nominate for the Board at any time but elections are usually made at the Annual General Meeting in October each year and your nomination must be presented at a Board Meeting prior to the AGM. The Intereach Board currently requires between nine and twelve members, including a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Public Officer.
Can I nominate myself?
You can initiate your own nomination but you must still have two currently financial members of the organisation sign your nomination form.
