Intereach has a volunteer program that allows community members to volunteer their time to assist people who receive our services. Volunteers have always played a vital role in our operations and Intereach is a great place in which to volunteer, as we have a variety of opportunities in many locations. This may be why we have more than 150 volunteers, some of whom have been with us for over ten years!
Why volunteer?
Volunteering helps build a stronger community and supports those in need. It allows you to learn new skills, meet people and make new friends, share your experiences, gain new knowledge and be a part of a dynamic and caring team. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, and include people of different age groups, experience and abilities. Amongst our volunteers are students, unemployed people, full-time workers, and retirees. Anybody over the age of 12 years can apply to become a volunteer with Intereach and we also welcome volunteering families, and corporate volunteering projects.
What will I be doing?
We know that your work needs to be meaningful, challenging and rewarding and that you need to feel that your work makes a difference, that you are appreciated, and that you are both using and developing your skills. To this end, we strive to make sure that the right people are in the right jobs, by matching your skills, interests, and goals with the vacancies we have available. Some ways you might contribute are: accompanying clients to appointments; helping with transport and shopping; friendly home visiting; administration support; helping out in The Country Store; maintenance and working bees; and workshops and group activities.
What will I gain?
As a volunteer, you will not be paid for your time but there are other ways you will be benefit from being involved. Intereach will provide a free induction and any necessary ongoing training. You may also be involved in free social events and outings with other volunteers and clients.
How do I become involved?
Contact Intereach and a volunteer coordinator will meet with you to discuss volunteer options. You will be matched with a program that is relevant to your skills and interests and staff will help you settle in to your new volunteer role.
