We recently asked some of our Albury aged care team to share their personal highlights from careers focused on helping older people to remain safe and independent in their own homes and connected to the communities they love.
Here’s what they shared:
Samantha Robertson, Community Support Worker
Working in aged care has completely changed my perspective on life. It has taught me to appreciate the simple things we often take for granted, such as time, family, connection, and kindness.
Building meaningful relationships with older people and being able to brighten their day doesn’t feel like a job at all. Seeing a client smile when you arrive and knowing they have been looking forward to your visit is incredibly rewarding.
One positive outcome I have seen is the difference consistent support and genuine connection can make to a client’s wellbeing. Clients who were once isolated or withdrawn have become more engaged, confident, and happy simply through regular visits, conversation, and encouragement.
It reminds me every day that, as a team, we do far more than provide care – we help improve quality of life and make a real difference to the people we support.

I enjoy my job because I can help older people stay connected to their communities and the people who matter to them. I have seen social connections have a significant impact on an older person’s wellbeing and quality of life. It is rewarding to support people to maintain relationships, participate in activities they enjoy, and remain engaged in their community while continuing to live independently at home.

I enjoy being able to help participants understand their funding and navigate the aged care system to access the care that they need. Our participants are grateful for our support, tailoring information to their needs so they can make informed decisions in relation to their own care. I’m glad to be able to assist them.

Working in aged care is incredibly rewarding because it allows me to make a real difference in an older person’s life through domestic assistance, personal care, and social support.
One of the most beautiful aspects of in-home care is helping people remain safely and independently in the comfort of their own homes for as long as they choose, while knowing that the support I provide helps make their daily lives easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable.
The one-on-one time we spend with clients is especially meaningful. For some, we may be the only person they speak with that day, making every visit an opportunity to provide both practical support and genuine connection.

In my role with Intereach, I support older individuals by building strong rapport, brightening their day through meaningful interactions, and helping them to navigate the Aged Care system with confidence.
Sue Filipovich, Program Coordinator
Working in aged care often means supporting the small, unseen actions that can make a big difference in a person’s life. Behind the scenes, much of our work involves coordinating services, advocating for our participants, and supporting them to continue living safely in their own homes.
One example that stands out for me was supporting a participant who had recently been widowed, was at risk of social isolation and unsure how to access services that had been approved by My Aged Care. By working with colleagues to ensure that the right in-home supports were in place, we were able to enhance the participant’s wellbeing and sense of connection.
The participant approached me at a recent aged care event and thanked me for taking the time to listen and support her through a difficult time. It is these moments that remind me how meaningful our work in aged care is and the real impact we have as individuals and as a team.
Natasha Hillier, Team Leader
I work behind the scenes to ensure our participants receive high-quality services from appropriately qualified and trained staff.
My role involves supporting and guiding workers to maintain consistent, high standards of care and support for all clients.
It is incredibly rewarding to receive positive feedback from clients regarding the services provided. Many clients express that the support they receive enables them to continue living safely and independently in their own homes.

Having worked in aged care for many years, I feel genuinely grateful for the opportunity to support so many clients and see the difference we make in their lives. From my very first client meeting, my approach has always been that we are a team.
By the time someone receives a funding, they’ve often been through a long and sometimes overwhelming journey of calls and assessments. Our role is to make things easier from that point, by communicating clearly, guiding them through what comes next, and working alongside them to deliver the services and support they need.
Now, as a manager, I feel incredibly fortunate to lead such a dedicated team. They consistently go above and beyond for the people they support, and you can hear the passion in their voices. It’s clear they truly care and take pride in making a real difference.
