Giving young people every chance to fulfill their ambitions is a key outcome of Intereach’s Safer Communities program.

For Corowa’s Blake B, the chance to work with Intereach under the Federally funded program has opened a range of opportunities that have allowed him to take the first step in gaining a car licence.

“Thanks Bec and Intereach. Without the support, I would not have got this done,” Blake said.

Intereach provided study support through youth worker Bec, and the resources and encouragement for Blake to take on his personal challenge.

The Australian Government’s Safer Communities fund has allowed Intereach to partner with young people across regional towns in NSW and Victoria to develop a range of life skills, including educational and vocational training.

Intereach Co-CEO Yvette Buhagiar said the program delivered through the Safer Communities team had a positive and lasting impact across many communities, with the greatest impact evident in Corowa, and Albury and surrounding areas.

“Team member Bec has been working with Blake on his journey, setting challenging yet realistic goals,” Mrs Buhagiar said.

“It has been a wonderful partnership between Blake and Intereach and I know there was much excitement in our Family and Mental Health teams when Blake’s dedication and hard work paid off with his learner’s permit. It is what makes this program so special.”
