Free events to boost carers wellbeing

Carers in the Albury and Griffith areas have been invited to attend free events to help boost their wellbeing.
A free information and wellbeing Expo will be held at Mirambeena Community Centre, Martha Mews, Lavington, Albury on Thursday 28 June from 10 am till 2 pm.
The All About ME Expo, hosted by Intereach and the Border Carers Reference Group, is an opportunity to meet with organisations that provide support and services for local carers together under one roof.
The event will also feature wellbeing activities, door prizes, information stalls and guest speakers. Catering will be provided.
Griffith area carers have been invited to attend a free wellbeing workshop at Griffith Exies Club, Jondaryan Ave, on Tuesday 26 June 2018.
The workshops, hosted by Intereach, will feature yoga and mindfulness, self-massage and self-care techniques.
Two sessions will be held the first from 10 am till 12 pm and the second from 2 pm till 4 pm.
As many as 12 percent of the local population are carers and nationwide more than 2.7 million people have caring responsibilities. Intereach provides support and respite services for local carers through their Commonwealth Respite Carelink Centre (CRCC).
Intereach CEO Keryn Fox said “Carers are everywhere within our communities, and odds are you either are a carer or know a carer. Nobody plans to become a carer, a sudden accident, illness or the increasing frailty of a family member or friend means that any of us could become a carer at any time. Caring can be rewarding but it can also be demanding and exhausting. Sometimes caring responsibilities mean a carer can miss out on socialising, relaxing or enjoying a hobby.”
“Too often carers can go unrecognised, but if carers decided to stop performing their caring role, it would cost more than $60 billion each year to replace those supports. Events like this are a wonderful way to show carers that support is available and they are not alone.”
