Going the extra mile to make a difference

Raquel has always felt a moral obligation to offer support wherever it was most beneficial and would have a positive impact.
Community support work has provided an avenue for that.
Based in Echuca, Raquel has been a Community Support Worker with Intereach for 12 months.
Over that time, her commitment to her clients has transcended distance, as she tirelessly travels around Campaspe and Loddon shires, ensuring our services reach those who need them most.
Her willingness to go the extra mile, quite literally, reflects her genuine passion for making a difference in people’s lives.

"Intereach provides a positive and supportive working environment, and I have wonderful colleagues, which helps make my work life very satisfying.

If it wasn’t for the home care support Raquel provides, Echuca’s Sheena Campbell would struggle to live independently.
“Living on my own, I can’t do everything myself, and Raquel’s help around the house is invaluable,” Sheena said.

“Nothing is ever too much trouble for her. She is so helpful and kind and takes an interest in me, and always asks how I’m doing and if there’s anything I need.”
Team Leader Scott Comte said Raquel’s empathetic nature and keen observation skills made her an invaluable asset to the team.
“She not only notices the smallest changes in her clients’ behaviour and wellbeing but also serves as a trusted advocate for their needs,” he said.
One example of Raquel’s advocacy occurred when she voiced concerns about a client’s wellbeing to the aged care team.
Her swift action led to urgent intervention and support for the client, highlighting her commitment to safeguarding the welfare of those in our care.
Raquel’s dedication extends beyond her professional duties; she is a beacon of support and compassion for our clients, creating meaningful connections and fostering trust with every interaction.
This led to Raquel winning the Social Justice award in Intereach’s Summer Thank You Staff Awards, which aim to build a strong, connected culture in the workplace.
Developed by the People and Culture Governance Group, the quarterly awards recognise staff who are upholding the Intereach values of leadership, partnership and social justice.
“I feel truly humbled but thankful that I was the chosen recipient of this award,” she said.

The work that we do helps clients retain a degree of control in their lives. We help them to access all resources and opportunities that are available to them, ensuring fair and just outcomes. This award encompasses those very values.
“It also reinforces that I am on the right path.”
