The Deniliquin community is mourning the loss of Bruce Simpson after the highly respected figure in regional agriculture and dedicated member of the Intereach Board died recently.

Bruce’s contributions to the communities of Southern Riverina were profound, reflecting his deep commitment to contributing to the prosperity and sustainability of rural and regional communities.

With a career spanning over four decades in the irrigated agriculture industry, Bruce’s expertise and leadership greatly benefited the families, organisations and communities he served, particularly in areas of planning, management, practice, water policy, and corporate governance.

His work extended beyond his professional pursuits, owning and operating a successful farm advisory business and family farming enterprise.

Bruce’s role as a director and chairman of Murray Irrigation and as a Member of the panel carrying out the independent assessment of social and economic conditions in the Basin (Murray Darling Basin) highlighted his influence and advocacy for water policy reforms and sustainable agricultural practices.

Within Intereach, Bruce was recognised for his wisdom, integrity, and unwavering commitment to good governance. Bruce was a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD).

Bruce Simpson’s contributions to Intereach and the people we serve were invaluable and timely,” Intereach Chair Rob Brown said

“His leadership, knowledge, and passion for rural and regional development were unparalleled.

“He approached every challenge with curiosity, wisdom and a sense of humour that lifted us all and, by doing that, strengthened our capability as a Board.”

Intereach extends its heartfelt condolences to Bruce’s family — Shandra, Lucy, and Charlie — and to everyone touched by his remarkable life and legacy.
