NDIS Update – January 2019

graphic of leaves

Since our last E-News, we have been busy recruiting for local staff across Loddon, Mallee, Goulburn and Murrumbidgee to best support our communities.

From January 1 this year, the NDIS is now available in the Mallee and Goulburn regions. Most participants, families/carers and providers can expect contact from Intereach staff from now to support the development of their NDIS plan and form linkages to community and other government agency support.

If you’ve never connected with Intereach before, it’s natural that you might want to know more about us. Visit our website https://www.intereach.com.au/  to find out more about who we are and what other services we offer.

International Day of People with a Disability

Intereach staff across NSW and Victoria joined in with local celebrations during International Day of People with a Disability (IDPWD) held formally on December 3, 2018. This year’s theme was access and inclusion in sport and the community.
Celebrations across the Intereach footprint included the launch of a recently installed kayak launcher for people with physical disabilities at Picnic Point near Mathoura, celebrating with the local community at the Bendigo Community Fest, taking part in the ‘Para Sports Come N Try’ event in Shepparton, enjoying good food and music in Albury, a poetry reading in Leeton, an Art in the Park celebration in Finley and taking part in outdoor activities and a BBQ in Mildura.

Check out why this day is important to one of our team members, Shivone: https://www.intereach.com.au/stories/shivones-inspirational-story/

NDIS resources and information

Three participant booklets are available to support people with disability and participants throughout their NDIS journey. The booklets are a practical tool to help people with disability, participants, their families, carers and the wider community to learn more about the NDIS, prepare for a planning meeting and to implement their plan.

The booklets are intended for use throughout a person’s NDIS journey and can be used to record key information, write questions and collect thoughts.

Where will we be during January and February?

A key part of our role is getting out and about in community to run NDIS information sessions, plan readiness, plan implementation, plan review workshops, as well as being present at events, festivals and other key places with our iVan. We have lots of great resources and fantastic staff who are happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have or offer support to access the scheme.

This newsletter will always include a schedule of where and when we will be in your community, so feel free to come and say hello. Another great way to keep up-to-date with our movements is by following our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/intereachdeniliquin/
