Celebrating the Legacy of Andrew Johnstone and Pat Fogarty
For decades, Intereach has worked alongside rural and regional communities to support children, families, older people and people with disability. While services and programs continue to evolve, strong leadership has remained a constant foundation.
Intereach proudly acknowledged the contributions of two long-serving Board Directors whose dedication has helped shape the organisation’s journey and future direction: Andrew Johnstone and Pat Fogarty.
Andrew Johnstone
After almost 10 years of service on the Intereach Board, including time as Deputy Chair, Andrew Johnstone has retired, closing an important chapter in Intereach’s governance history.
Andrew’s contribution extended far beyond attendance at Board meetings. Known for his intelligence, integrity and thoughtful approach, he consistently brought a unique perspective to discussions and decision-making. His fellow directors recognised his ability to ask the right questions, challenge ideas constructively and ensure every decision remained focused on achieving the best outcomes for Intereach and the communities it serves.
Board Chair Alison Maclean reflected on Andrew’s lasting impact, describing him as an incredibly thoughtful and constructive contributor whose commitment never wavered, even when difficult decisions required personal sacrifice.
Throughout his tenure, Andrew earned the respect of colleagues for his willingness to listen to diverse viewpoints, respectfully explore alternative positions and bring clarity to complex issues. His steady leadership and unwavering commitment have helped guide Intereach through significant growth and change.
While Andrew may be stepping away from the Board table, his influence will continue to be felt across the organisation for years to come.
Earlier this year, Intereach also farewelled Pat Fogarty, whose remarkable 30-year association with the organisation represents an extraordinary contribution to community services across rural and regional Australia.
During her 15 years as a Director, including time as Board Chair, Pat provided leadership through periods of significant organisational and sector-wide change. Her extensive professional knowledge, coupled with a deep understanding of the realities facing rural, regional and remote communities, made her an invaluable voice around the Board table.
Pat brought a rare combination of strategic insight and lived experience, ensuring decisions remained grounded in the needs of the people and communities Intereach serves. Her leadership helped position the organisation for long-term sustainability while continuing to respond to the changing needs of regional Australia.
Her dedication, care and commitment have left a lasting legacy that continues to influence Intereach’s direction today.
The contributions of Andrew Johnstone and Pat Fogarty have helped shape Intereach into the organisation it is today. Through their leadership, guidance and unwavering commitment to community, they have played an important role in strengthening services and creating positive outcomes for countless individuals and families across rural and regional communities.
On behalf of Intereach, its staff, volunteers, stakeholders and the communities served, we extend our sincere gratitude to Andrew and Pat for their years of service, leadership and dedication.
Their legacy will continue to inspire the work we do every day.
