Today on International Day of People with Disability - Australia — we’re celebrating one of our own champions of inclusion. 👏

This year’s #IDPwD theme, Fostering Disability Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress, is all about creating fairer, more connected communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Local area coordinator program manager Rebekah lives this every day. 🤲

From breaking down accessibility barriers across the Mallee to launching Hot Wheelies, Mildura’s first inclusive wheelchair basketball program, Rebekah shows how leadership, collaboration and social justice can create positive change. ♿

“If you believe in something, you need to have the courage to fight for those ideas, goals and passions,” she said.

What a perfect day to celebrate all things disability inclusion! ☀️

Ahead of International Day of People with Disability - Australia tomorrow, we hosted our first #IDPwD community event in Echuca.

People of all ages and abilities flocked to Echuca East Recreation Reserve to celebrate community connection through inclusive games, arts and crafts, performances, speakers, information stalls, food and all things accessible! ♿

Thanks to our partners U-choose Support Service, Echuca Regional Health, Community Living & Respite Services Inc.., Kyabram District Health Service - KDHS, We Are Vivid and Campaspe Shire Council for helping make our inaugural free event such a great success.

When women are paid fairly, they gain independence, confidence, and the power to make their own choices - including the ability to leave unsafe situations.

Right now in Australia, women still earn less on average than men. This gap sends a message that women’s contributions are valued less. That needs to change.

Closing the gender pay gap isn’t just about money, it’s about safety, respect, and equality for everyone. For those experiencing racism, ableism, homophobia or transphobia, that gap can be even wider.

This #16DaysOfActivism, we join the call for fair pay, equal opportunities, and safer communities for all. Because it all starts with respect.

When we make everyone feel welcome and included, we open the door for people to contribute, achieve their potential, and experience true belonging. 🤲

We had a blast holding fun activities in our Seymour office as part of Social Inclusion Week last week, and are looking forward to events breaking down accessibility barriers for International Day of People with Disability on Wednesday.

Here’s what’s happening across the week:

Tuesday 2 December
👨‍🦽 Mildura: Come and Try All Abilities Sports Day — wheelchair basketball, soccer/futsal, dancing, mini games, badge-making and more. Mildura Hothouse Basketball Stadium, 10am–12pm
🫶 Echuca: Community celebration with inclusive games, stalls, speakers, food and accessible amenities. Echuca East Recreation Reserve, 10am–1pm.

Wednesday 3 December
🎨 Cootamundra: Mocktails and Masterpieces — two creative, painting sessions for people with disability.
🚶Griffith: Every Step Counts with Griffith City Council — community walk, arts and crafts, games, cupcakes and consultation on council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan. Griffith Memorial Park, 10am–1pm.

Thursday 4 December
🎲 Wagga Wagga: Triviability — free inclusive trivia and games with prizes.

Friday 5 December
🎪 Bendigo: Intereach LAC and EC teams at the Central Victorian Disability Festival — all-abilities sports, music, chill-out zones and quiet sensory time. Red Energy Arena, 11am–2pm.

At Intereach, we support people with disability, their families and carers to access the NDIS, make informed choices, and build inclusive communities.

Call your local Intereach office for more information on 1300 488 226. Find out more about our work with people with disability: www.intereach.com.au/service/people-with-disability/

Everyone deserves to feel safe at home, in our community, and on our streets 🧡

No one should have to look over their shoulder or feel unsafe walking home at night.

Harmful ideas or attitudes - can fuel disrespect and violence against women. Together, we can change that.

By challenging these attitudes and modelling respect in our homes, workplaces, and communities, we can help create a culture where everyone feels safe, valued, and equal.
