Helping older people to live independently in their homes and keep you as well as possible
What is the Commonwealth Home Support Programme?
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is an entry-level home support program that helps older people to live independently in their homes and communities. It also provides respite services to give carers a break.
The program aims to:
- Help people live as independently as possible;
- Focus on working with them, rather than doing things for them; and
- Give a small amount of help to a large number of people.
Most people in the CHSP only need 1 or 2 services to help them to stay living independently.
If you’re an older Australian who wants to access government-funded help at home, you need to apply for an assessment on the My Aged Care website, call the My Aged Care contact centre or call Intereach on 1300 488 226 and talk to someone from the Aged Care Services team.
