Intereach Cootamundra has been recognised for its outstanding contributions to making the region more inclusive, connected, and supportive for local families, children, carers and community members.
Intereach took out Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion, as well as Outstanding Customer Service Individual for team member Billie-Jo Johnson at the 2026 Cootamundra Business Awards.
Intereach Co-CEO Yvette Buhagiar said the recognition was a testament to the amazing work of all team members and the strong relationships they built across the community every day.
“These awards recognise the real difference our team is making in people’s lives,” Mrs Buhagiar said.
“Whether it’s helping a family access support, creating opportunities for people to connect, or making sure someone feels welcomed and valued, our staff go above and beyond every day.”

Operating from the Cootamundra Community Centre, Intereach supports hundreds of local people each year through a range of child, family and community programs. The centre has become a trusted community hub where people can seek support, build connections and access services in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Judges commended Intereach for “embedding diversity and inclusion into everyday practice through leadership, accessibility and genuine commitment”.
That commitment is reflected not only in Intereach strategies and policies, but in practical actions on the ground — from culturally responsive programs and disability-inclusive practices to flexible outreach services, home visits and community activities designed to meet people where they are.
Judges also praised Ms Johnson for “delivering exceptional service that positively impacts vulnerable families, carers and multicultural communities”.
As a Child, Family and Community Worker, Ms Johnson helps deliver playgroups, carers groups and multicultural programs while also providing advocacy, referrals and practical support for people facing complex challenges.
One community member described Billie-Jo as “a vision of community and service that inspires what you do”, praising the welcoming and supportive environment she helps create.
“It is an absolute honour just to be nominated. Thank you to the organisers, the Cootamundra community, and my Intereach family — your support makes coming to work a joy,” Ms Johnson (pictured) said.
Mrs Buhagiar said Ms Johnson made people feel seen, heard and supported and the award was well deserved.
“She builds trust, breaks down barriers and helps people find the confidence and connections they need to thrive,” she said.
The awards, hosted by Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council, also recognised Intereach’s broader contribution to community wellbeing through partnerships, events and initiatives that bring people together and foster a stronger sense of belonging. From NAIDOC Week and Harmony Week celebrations to activities supporting mental health and inclusion, Intereach continues to play an important role in building Strong Connected Communities.
