Accessing great volunteer relationships

Volunteers supporting a program that encourages greater accessibility across Albury Wodonga have been recognised for their efforts to lift inclusivity.
In partnership with Omnia Inclusive Employment Solutions and Albury City Council, social services provider Intereach has been running the Access At A Glance program – a wonderful initiative that focuses on how businesses are currently meeting disability access and inclusion and providing advice on business improvements to lift the experience of all customers.
The outcome of that accessibility review is highlighted with a number of stickers that allow people, at a glance, to make an assessment if they will have access and support in attending that particular business.
As part of National Volunteers Week, Intereach held a special presentation in appreciation for the invaluable contributions made by the Omina volunteers.
More than 180 businesses have had an accessibility audit conducted as a result of the partnership.
Intereach General Manager of Operations Maree Piffero expressed her gratitude for the volunteers and their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
“We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering dedication shown by the Access At A Glance volunteers. Their selfless efforts have not only transformed the lives of participants but also helped build a more inclusive community. This event is a small token of our appreciation for their exceptional work,” Ms Piffero said.
The event was marked by a presentation of awards followed by a morning tea catered by The Purple Chicken, which is a hospitality training cafe for young adults with disabilities.
Among the attendees was Linda from Omnia Inclusive Employment Solutions, who expressed her gratitude for Intereach’s support.
“It was a special day and a wonderful recognition of our achievements with Access at A Glance. It was a beautiful morning, the participants are very proud of their efforts and of their awards,” she said.
The collaboration between Intereach, Omnia Inclusive Employment Solutions, and Albury City Council in delivering the Access At A Glance program highlights the power of community partnerships in creating positive change. By working together, these organisations have paved the way for greater inclusion and empowered individuals in the Albury region.
Intereach is keen to hear from people in the Albury Wodonga region who would like to volunteer for a range of programs the organisation supports. In some cases, volunteering can be as little as one hour a week. For more on volunteering contact Intereach on 1300 488 226.
