“Leadership is more than what one person has done, it’s about the team you are a part of and the collective difference you can make.”

For Intereach local area coordinator Bridgett, known as Bid, her team is everything. So when faced with significant challenges, Bid’s guidance and leadership resulted in positive outcomes for her Bendigo team, organisation and people with disability.

Bid’s commitment to her team’s wellbeing, ability to motivate and help them reach their full potential saw her win the Intereach Leadership Award as part of its Summer Thank You Awards.

Developed by the People and Culture Governance Group, the quarterly awards recognise staff who are upholding the Intereach values of leadership, partnership and social justice and aim to build a strong, connected culture in the workplace.

Bid - Local area coordinator

“Anyone can be a leader by setting a good example, doing their best and committing to being a part of a team who strive to achieve the same outcome. That team just happens to be our team, ‘The T-Birds’.”

The T-Birds rallied together when their Program Manager, mentor and friend Tracey, affectionately known as Mumma T-Bird, became ill earlier this year and had to take extended leave.

“Bid was a massive support to our team during this time and kept things ticking over and as light-hearted as possible, Tracey said.

During this time of emotional uncertainty, Bid stepped up unofficially into a leadership role and supported her team to stay focused on providing high quality support to participants, even amid significant changes within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Being a local area coordinator is incredibly challenging, but extremely rewarding at the same time.”

“No two days are ever the same and it’s remarkable to see the positive impact in people’s lives when they achieve their goals.”

Team members felt Bid’s positive impact every day, with her upbeat attitude, constant support, and regular check-ins making a world of difference.

“She has shown kindness, compassion, and empathy, ensuring everyone feels supported and valued,” her colleague Kristen said.

Bid said Intereach had the ability to pick up their staff when times were tough and raise them high to achieve tangible outcomes for local communities.

“Intereach can rally together faster, stronger, and harder than any workplace I know,” she said.

“It made working during such a taxing and emotional time just that little bit easier.”

Bid said the award was an acknowledgement of the skills she had learnt over many years from Tracey.

My colleagues are more than people I work with, they are my family.

“I love working at Intereach and I am so happy to have been a part of such an amazing organisation these past seven years.

“Despite growing dramatically in size over recent years, Intereach is still able to support people at grassroots levels and do a damn good job doing it too.”
