Volunteers delivering more than just meals
The tireless efforts of Intereach Meals on Wheels volunteers are making a difference to the lives of more than 60 seniors in Echuca, Kyabram, Corowa and Howlong by keeping them living in their homes and socially connected.
People like James of Kyabram.
"I can't cook so it’s important to keep me going. And it’s nice to get a visit from all the smiling ladies who come around."

Judy, of Kyabram, has been receiving Meals on Wheels for about 10 years and would be lost without it.
“At 82 my age, I can’t stand to cook at the stove anymore because of my back, so I get all the help I could possibly have to stay at home,” she said.
Meals on Wheels is very important to people like me who can’t do what they used to do.”
Wednesday, August 28, is National Meals on Wheels Day, a day to celebrate the service that has been supporting Australians for more than 70 years.
Intereach Workforce Team Leader Sue Devereaux said Meals on Wheels volunteers are a lifeline to older people who rely on the organisation to remain independent.
In 2023-24, these amazing people collectively travelled more than the length of Australia’s coastline (18,605km) and volunteered more than 1480 hours to deliver 13,642 nutritious meals.
“They not only provide an important quality of life service, but they make friendships along the way,” Ms Devereaux said.
“Our volunteers get a real sense of fulfilment out of what they do and the impact they can make in someone’s life.”
Intereach Co-CEO Michelle Tai said Meals on Wheels couldn’t operate without volunteers.
Meals on Wheels volunteers really are the heart of our communities,” Ms Tai said.
“They don’t just deliver meals. They bring connection, care, and a sense of belonging to those who need it most.
“Their dedication contributes directly to our vision of ‘strong, connected communities’ where everyone feels valued and supported.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our Meals on Wheels volunteers for their remarkable dedication and empowering older Australians to live the life they choose.”
