Intereach expressed its heartfelt ‘thank you’ to carers in Wagga Wagga at a Carers Week Wellbeing Day, on Thursday October 20.

National Carers Week is held annually to recognise and celebrate the 2.65 million Australians who provide care and support to a family member or friend.

The carers who attended the Wellbeing Day all enjoyed spending time together and getting involved in the various activities that were on offer.

The day started with an Acknowledgement of Country and Intereach welcomed and recognised carers who show up each and every day to fulfil their important role. Additionally, there was an overview of the supports provided by Intereach and information on the No Interest Loan Scheme, the Reach Out and Relax program, and its role as a NDIS Partner in the Community.

The day’s activities included painting of meditation stones, mindfulness colouring, Pilates and magnet scrapbooking. A delicious light lunch was served.

Carers were also encouraged to draw their journey of being a carer on a canvas in a collaborative art piece. Once this collaborative piece is finalised it will be showcased in the foyer of the Intereach Wagga office with a small plaque.

Comments from participants included:

“I am so grateful for the people I have met and the information I have learnt here today.”

“Thank you so much to Intereach for organising such a relaxing day to celebrate us.”

“I have never had this much time in a day to sit and be artistic in such a relaxing atmosphere.”

“The sharing of information offered on these days between carers is so important to all of us.”

All carers who participated said they were keen to attend regular Intereach ‘Carer Catchup Lunches’, so they can keep supporting each other.

Intereach thanks everyone who attended, and its team members who helped organise the event.
