Intereach in-home aged care keeping mother and daughter together

For 88-year-old Kathleen, home is where she feels most comfortable, surrounded by the people she loves.
Living with dementia, Kathleen relies on the support of her daughter Sue, who lives with her, providing daily care. While caring for a loved one can be rewarding, it can also be challenging, particularly when extra support is needed to help them remain safely at home.
That is where Intereach in-home aged care has made a profound difference.
“It is always hard when the time comes when you need help to assist with daily living requirements to continue to support your loved one at home,” Sue said.
“With the guidance of Intereach, this has made this transition less stressful and overwhelming.”

Through Intereach’s aged care services, Kathleen receives regular in-home support from Community Support Workers like Hayley, helping her maintain her routine and continue living in the place she knows best.
For Sue, the support provides more than practical assistance. It also offers valuable respite from the demands of caring for Kathleen around the clock.
From their very first meeting, Sue knew Hayley would be a positive presence in their lives.
“From the first introduction to Hayley, it was clear she was the perfect person for this role,” she said.
The relationship Hayley has built with Kathleen has become an important part of the Kyabram family’s routine.
“It is lovely when I tell mum Hayley will be here in the morning.
She always smiles and says,
‘That’s nice’,” Sue said.
For people living with dementia, familiar faces and trusted routines can provide comfort and reassurance. Hayley’s consistency, kindness and understanding have helped create exactly that for Kathleen.
“Hayley has always been a reassuring presence in our home and her patience, warmth and professionalism are greatly appreciated.”
Through personalised support, Hayley helps Kathleen maintain her dignity and independence while giving Sue confidence that her mother is being looked after from someone who genuinely cares.
“Hayley is a great asset to Intereach and all community caring roles she delivers,” Sue said.
As more seniors look for ways to remain at home for longer, Kathleen’s story highlights the difference in-home aged care support can make, not only for older people, but for their families and carers.
