Intereach Looks to the Future of Ageing at Singapore Innovation Forum
The Ageing Asia Innovation Forum is underway in Singapore and Intereach Co-CEO Yvette Buhagiar is there, immersed in a week of inspiration, collaboration, and dialogue focused on the future of aged care.
“Longer lives are re-shaping our approach to aged care,” Mrs Buhagiar said.
“We are entering an era where a 100-year life span is not unusual. As a result, the future of aged care is no longer focused on managing decline. It’s about supporting older people to extend their healthy years and re-designing the systems that will support them into the future.”
“A key theme of the conference has been around re-framing ageing as active and purposeful. The shift from passive to active ageing places a strong emphasis on individual purpose, connection, and wellbeing as core health interventions, not just ‘nice-to-have’.
“It’s not just clinical care, but social, emotional, and physical health care combined.”
Mrs Buhagiar sees opportunities for the aged care sector in Australia to re-think the systems that underpin current aged care models.
“Ageing in place has emerged as a key theme of the conference – enabling older people to navigate their later life in their own home, supported by the community, before institutional care is even considered,” she said.
“It’s local, integrated, preventative and community-anchored.”
The Ageing Asia Innovation Forum has brought together thought leaders from around the globe to focus on the future of ageing.
“It’s been an incredible experience so far,” Mrs Buhagiar said.
“The knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm in the room is palpable. And the inspiration is flowing.”
“At Intereach, we aim to deliver the best of care to our participants and ensure they age with dignity, purpose and joy.”
“Conferences like this help to inform our work, encourage continual innovation, and step into the future with confidence and clarity.”
The conference moves to industry tours over the next two days, and Mrs Buhagiar is looking forward to seeing ideas in action in a country where the silver economy is growing rapidly.
“Intereach’s participation in this conference is an incredible opportunity to connect, collaborate and learn,” Mrs Buhagiar said.
“I look forward to sharing my experiences with our team and the broader sector when I return,” she said.
