The People Behind Aged Care: The heart of what we do

When it comes to aged care, these words couldn’t be more true. 

Because in the end, it’s not just about the care you receive — it’s how it makes you feel. 

Across our communities, aged care clients and their families are continuing to share stories of Intereach staff who have helped them to feel more independent, connected and respected. 

For many older people, feeling heard and having a say in their own care is just as important as the support itself. In Echuca, Anna made a lasting impression by doing exactly that. 

After stepping in at short notice, Anna built confidence and trust with her client, giving her dignity of choice and respecting her rights to care.

“Anna was considerate and took the time to understand my needs, gave me choices, and made me feel in control of the services in my home,” she said.

A family member of another client described Anna as a “Godsend”.  

“Anna keeps (my Dad) engaged, which is a very difficult thing to do,” she said. 

In Albury, Narelle has also built strong, trusted relationships with the older people she supports.

Known for her consistency and care, the Community Support Worker (CSW) has been described as:

“wonderful … and goes above and beyond for her clients”.

That same sense of warmth is echoed across the team.

Another client spoke about CSWs Cathy, Goma and Qiuhong with genuine affection.

Beyond the home visits, team members quietly work behind the scenes to coordinate support. 

In Deniliquin, Care Partner Tamra has been a steady source of support for an older couple as they manage the challenges of daily life.

And in Swan Hill, a client recently reflected on her time with Intereach as she transitioned into residential care, asking for her heartfelt thanks to be shared with the entire team. 

“I wish to express my deep appreciation for all staff involved in my care. Everyone was wonderful to me,” she said. 

This feedback highlights that great aged care is not just about services. 

It’s about people supporting people. To stay active, independent, and connected, in their own homes for as long as possible.
