National Disability Insurance Scheme
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can provide all people with disability with information and connections to services in their communities such as doctors, sporting clubs, community groups, libraries and schools, as well as information about what support is provided in your local area.
Intereach Local Area Coordinators (LACs) support people aged 9-65 who live with disability, their carers and families, to understand, access and navigate the NDIS by providing planning and coordination.

What do Local Area Coordinators do?
- If you need access to the NDIS, there are a few stages to your pathway – from understanding and requesting access, to developing and implementing your plan. Local Area Coordinators help you as you move from stage to stage on your pathway with the NDIS.
- LACs can help you to understand and access the NDIS, think about your goals and create your plan, then help you put your plan into action. LACs can also help you implement your plan, finding the supports and services you need and exploring options for you to get involved in your local community.
- LACs provide a link to information and support in your community. This is important to help build your skills and confidence so that you have the information to participate in any fun, interesting and different activities you want to be involved with in the community.
- LACs will link you to your local community by helping you find information and options about mainstream support like education, health, housing, transport, training and employment. They will also help sustain support you receive from family, friends and local community members.
- LACs work with both individuals and the community. Building inclusive communities provides the opportunity for individuals to achieve their goals and participate in all aspects of community life. Strong neighbourhoods, clubs and groups help create a sense of community, enabling people to work together and look out for each other.
- LACs can support you to take up leadership roles in your community by being on community boards, committees or working groups. They can help you go to training or encourage establishment of innovative programs that grow opportunities for people with disability within the community.

Am I eligible?
Anyone who thinks they might be eligible for the NDIS can contact an Intereach Local Area Coordinator on 1300 488 226 to discuss what information and supporting evidence is to be provided to the NDIS for assessment.
What is an NDIS Plan?
An NDIS Plan is a document that outlines your needs and goals as well as any disability supports you require. It also includes the funding to help you achieve those goals.
What does the NDIS fund?
The NDIS funds supports and services that enable you to live the life you choose as a valued member of the community.
NDIS supports fall into three categories:
Core Supports budget – Core Supports help you with everyday activities, your current disability-related needs and to work towards your goals. For example assistance with everyday needs such as cleaning and/or yearly maintenance, assistive items you may require such as continence products, support worker visits, employment and transport.
Capacity Building Supports budget – Capacity Building Supports help build your independence and skills to help you reach your long-term goals. For example improved living arrangements, increased social and community participation, and training or therapy to help increase your independence.
Capital Supports budget – Capital Supports include higher-cost pieces of assistive technology, equipment and home or vehicle modifications, and funding for one-off purchases you may need (including Specialist Disability Accommodation).
